Melissa Ko is Managing Member and Chief Investment Officer of Covepoint Capital Advisors, LLC. She brings over 25 years of professional experience to Macro, Emerging Markets and Currency Trading. Melissa has extensive experience in proprietary trading and hedge fund investing.

 

Covepoint Capital Advisors, LLC, a family office based in New York City, New York, was originally founded during her tenure as Senior Managing Director at Bear Stearns and Company, before being spun out as Covepoint Capital Advisors, LLC in 2008. In 2013, Melissa and Covepoint made the move to return external capital and transitioned from a hedge fund to a family office.

 

Melissa Ko has extensive history working as a trader and an investor Emerging Markets, dating back to the early 1990’s. She was one of the architects of the financial instrument, non-deliverable forward (NDF), a forward or a futures contract in which the notional amount is never exchanged and where the counterparties settle by taking the difference between the contracted rate and the prevailing spot rate. The NDF played an important role in increasing liquidity and offering hedging alternatives for currencies where delivery was limited by underlying transaction requirements.  Melissa has worked on various trading desks, including at Citibank, ABN-AMRO and Bankers Trust, where she was the Head of the Latin American Currency Desk. She headed up the propriety currency trading desk at Deutsche Bank before transitioning to the buyside. Melissa received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the MIT Corporation Development Committee. She is a board member of the Jeffrey Ahn, Jr. Fellowship. Melissa Ko lives in New York City with her husband, Doug Hahn, and their two children
