Melissa Ko | Covepoint Capital Advisors LLC
Melissa Ko is the Managing Member of Covepoint Capital Advisors, LLC and serves as the Chief Investment Officer of its flagship, the Covepoint Emerging Markets Macro Fund.
Melissa Ko originally founded the Fund during her tenure as Senior Managing Director at Bear Stearns. In 2008, Melissa spun out the Fund and relaunched it through Covepoint Capital Advisors, LLC. At its peak, the Fund managed more than $2.4 billion. In 2013, Covepoint returned external capital and made the transition from a Hedge Fund to a Family Office. The motivations behind the transition included the desire to take longer term investment views in an environment that had become increasingly focused on short-term results as well as intention to use more leverage and take more risks. The transition was also in response to increasingly burdensome regulatory requirements.
Melissa Ko has an extensive history as an Emerging Markets trader and investor going back to the early 1990s. Before joining Bear Stearns in 2002, she was a Partner at Blue Border Partners, an Emerging Markets Hedge Fund, from 2000 to 2002. Prior to joining Blue Border, Melissa Ko was a Director with Deutsche Bank in charge of Emerging Markets Currencies Proprietary Trading and was the Head of the Latin American Currency Desk at Bankers Trust. Prior to her tenure at Bankers Trust, Melissa held trading positions at Citibank and Abn-Amro.
Melissa received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Melissa Ko is a member of the MIT Corporation Development Committee and also serves on the boards at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church and the Metropolitan Opera.
